Rural Treeline Management Services

It is well known in the wine industry Worldwide that Margaret River wines can be recognised by the Eucalyptus nose and taste in wine shows by Judges and Vintners. This is a problem that Winemakers are now taking action on by removing the offending trees from fence lines and plantings adjacent to vine rows.

Just one leaf during grape harvest and crush can affect the flavour of the wine. Also, the eucalyptus aroma from the trees will enter the grapes during the growing season and the taste of the final wine can be influenced.

Eucalyptus trees use large amounts of water and nutrients from the first 2-3 rows of vines, this reduces availability to the vines and lessens grape yield by up to more than 50%. Shading is also another issue.

Hence we are regularly being asked by Vineyard Managers if we would like to remove logs from treelines along fences that are causing trouble with Wine tainting, fence and vine damage. So we now offer a service to remove treelines for mill logs or chipping and can organize fence removal, restoration and supply chipping waste for vine mulch.

Gracewood Timber is one of the only sawmills in the Southwest to mill Eastern State Plantation timbers. We are working on a platform to supply Sustainable timbers to a growing local market.
